Acronym: POZA (POZnan Algae)
The Collections of Macro and Microalgae:
(1) The collection of Charophytes – stoneworts (The collection gathered under the guidance of Professor Isabelle Dąmbska): The collection includes ca. 1 400 herbarium sheets of more than 60 taxa from the Europe. It holds the largest collection of duplicates and materials from publishing herbarium, known as ‘Charotheca Polonica’. The Charotheca Polonica collections comprise ca. 3 000 herbarium sheets. The Herbarium of Isabelle Dąmbska holds the largest collection of Polish stoneworts, and has large collections from France, Denmark, Czech Republic, Slovakia, the former Yugoslavia, and from the Mediterranean Sea. The Collection containing many of allegates of rare stoneworts, some dating back to 1900 (mostly from the Europe), and currently includes almost 1 000 sheets. The Herbarium contains over a dozen of type specimens (the stonewort specimen to which the scientific name of that species is attached). The herbarium sheets of stoneworts are catalogued in 80 %.
(2) The Herbarium-related publications from XIX century: The collection includes ca. 1 500 herbarium sheets. The most important exsiccata are a part of the series such as: Die Algen Sachsens, and Die Characeen Europa’s. In the collection there are around several of types specimens. In addition the collection contains over several hundred specimens of microalgae (including the blue algae) on microscope slides. The most valuable exsiccata from the 19th and early 20th century are associated in the collections of L. Rabenhorst (collected in the years 1848-1877). For more details please see the “Rabenhorst’s algae in Polish collections” by Burchardt et al. 1999.
